Class Description

Puppy Class Beginner Advanced Rally Agility
Conformation Draft Work Water Rescue CGC

Puppy Class
Top
This class is open to puppies between the ages of 4 months and 1 year. Puppies may not enter class until all Distemper series shots have been completed. Puppies will learn the beginning basics of obedience including heeling, sit, down, stay, and come. Socialization of puppies is important, so part of each class will include a “social time” with the other puppies.
Beginner Obedience
Top
This class is open to all adult dogs that have had no previous obedience training, or to puppies that have completed a puppy class. It will cover the basic obedience exercises including heeling, sit, down, stay, come, stand, and emphasize a higher level of accomplishment than expected at the puppy class level.
Beginner 2 Obedience
Top
The Novice Polishing and Retrieving course is for those who have dogs with beginner skills down pretty well, and who are looking to extend those through the Novice level, regardless of interest in competition. This means, for example, that the dog has a basic understanding of heel but needs to "proof" it and prepare it for off-leash heeling, the dog does a good stay but needs work under distracting conditions and longer distances, the dog comes (sometimes), etc. We'll also start out with a retrieve in Week Two, for those who are interested in a working retrieve. The first week will be held at the school WITH dogs, and each successive week will be at a new public park location. Attendance in Week One is mandatory. Tools include chain collars, 6ft. leashes, longe lines (15ft), and may also include long and light lines and dumbbells. Collar and leash are all that is needed for the first week, but bring a dumbbell if you have one. Seasonal.td>
Intermediate/Advanced Obedience
Top
This class is intended for those interested in further training and/or preparation for showing their dog in UKC or AKC obedience trials. Ring procedures will be emphasized along with executing a more precise level of excellence in each novice exercise. Dogs will do some work off-leash and must be under control of the handler.
Rally Obedience
Top
Rally is open to dogs that have completed a beginner class and/or puppy class and exhibit an understanding of the basic obedience exercises. The dogs need to be under good control of the handler to succeed in Rally. Rally combines the basic obedience skills into a course setting and is intended as an AKC pre-novice level of obedience. It is interesting and challenging to the dogs to put together what they have learned in a different combination than that used in the Puppy or Beginner classes.
Agility
Top
Agility is the sport of running the dog through a prescribed course including such obstacles as tunnels, jumps, A frames, weave poles, etc. Classes include basic instruction on the obstacles, safety in using the equipment, and proper handling techniques. Classes meet in either a local horse training facility or in an enclosed outside setting in the spring, summer, & fall. Dogs must have had a basic level of obedience training and be at least one year old.
Conformation
Top
This class is intended for those wanting to show in the conformation ring in either AKC or UKC shows. Instruction will be provided on how to stack your dog properly, gaiting, and other showing techniques. You will get “real life” ring experience. It is open to any dog that has completed his Distemper series shots.
